How can lawn seed be applied in combination with fertilizer?

When combining grass seed and fertilizer, it is important to distinguish between organic and mineral fertilizers. Each type requires a different approach.

Combination with organic fertilizer

When using an organic fertilizer (organic lawn fertilizer), application is very flexible:

  • Lawn seed can be spread before or after fertilizing

  • There is no need to wait between fertilizing and sowing

  • The organic fertilizer can be worked directly into the soil

This ensures that the nutrients are gently made available to the young grasses, providing optimal support for germination and root development.

Combination with mineral fertilizer

When using mineral fertilizers (e.g., slow-release lawn fertilizer, summer lawn fertilizer, fall fertilizer, or Extra Power), extra caution is advised:

  • There should be a minimum interval of 4 weeks between fertilizing and sowing grass seed

  • Applying it too soon after sowing can damage or burn the grass seeds

This spacing ensures that the nutrients have spread throughout the soil and that the seedlings are not affected.
