When can I use weed killer after reseeding or laying a new lawn?

Special care is needed after reseeding or laying a new lawn, as young grass is very sensitive to herbicides.

Weed control during the first growing season

As a general rule:
No herbicide should be used during the first year after the grasses are planted.
Using it could damage the young grasses or even destroy them completely.

Exception for small-scale reseeding

If only a small area has been reseeded, the rest of the lawn—which is already established—can continue to be maintained. However, it is essential to ensure that:

• no herbicide gets onto the area that has been resown

• the treated areas are clearly defined

Weed Control When Laying a New Lawn

When laying a completely new lawn, we recommend waiting about a year before using weed killer.
Until then, any weeds that are present should be removed by hand so as not to harm the young grass.
