What should I look for in decorative sand if there are children or pets in the household?

If you have young children or pets, there are a few important things to keep in mind when using decorative sand.

The decorative sand contains nitrogen and ferrous sulfate. These substances can cause skin and eye irritation upon direct contact. Therefore, children and animals should not walk on the lawn until the sand has been completely watered in and the impurities have dissolved. This usually takes about 24–48 hours.

Be sure to follow the recommended dosage of 100 g per square meter, and then water the lawn thoroughly. This will ensure that no residue remains on the surface.

Additional safety instructions:

  • Always store decorative sand out of the reach of children and animals

  • Be sure to avoid swallowing it

  • Check your pets' paws after they first step onto the lawn and clean them if necessary

If you follow these guidelines, using decorative sand is no problem at all—and you can enjoy a lush, green, moss-free lawn without putting your loved ones’ safety at risk.
