What is the best time of year to reseed a lawn with Turbogrün?

When is the best time to reseed?

In general, you can overseed your lawn in both the spring and the fall. However, these time frames are only recommendations, as the actual timing always depends on the current weather conditions and can vary from year to year.

Overseeding in the Spring

The recommended time frame is—depending on weather conditions—between late March and April.

  • The ground is starting to warm up

  • The lawn is entering its growing season again

  • Frequent rainfall promotes germination

  • The amount of watering required is usually less

Important: Do not resow until the ground is permanently frost-free and temperatures remain stable.

Overseeding in the Fall

Fall is also a great time, usually starting in late September.

  • The ground is still warm from the summer

  • Temperatures are milder than in the height of summer

  • Autumn rainfall promotes germination

  • Less Stress for Young Grasses

The same applies here: The exact timing depends on the weather. If cold weather sets in very early, reseeding should be postponed.

Overseeding in the Summer—Recommended Only to a Limited Extent

Overseeding in the summer—for example, in August—is generally possible, but it is significantly more challenging.

  • High temperatures put a heavy strain on young grasses

  • Water demand is very high

  • Even brief periods of dryness during germination can cause the seeds to dry out and become unusable

  • The results are often more inconsistent than in the spring or fall

Important to Note

Regardless of the season, the following applies:
It's not the calendar that matters, but the weather. Soil and air temperatures, as well as sufficient moisture, are crucial to success. Depending on the weather, the optimal time frame may shift earlier or later.
