What does RSM stand for?
What does “RSM” mean when it comes to grass seed?
“RSM” stands for “Standard Seed Mixture.” These are standardized turf seed mixtures developed for a clearly defined purpose. Their composition is based on scientific findings and the guidelines of the Forschungsgesellschaft Landschaftsentwicklung Landschaftsbau e. V. (FLL).
The goal of RSM mixtures is to give users peace of mind and prevent disappointment when laying new sod or reseeding.
Why are RSM blends useful?
RSM blends are subject to strict quality standards. This ensures that:
contain only tested and suitable grass varieties
the mixture is suitable for the intended use (e.g., ornamental lawn, shade lawn, sports turf)
A uniform, healthy-looking lawn is created
Even though RSM seed mixtures are usually more expensive to purchase, you shouldn’t skimp on them. Inexpensive seed mixtures often lead to problems such as unwanted grasses, weeds, patchy growth, or low resilience—and the resulting effort and hassle are significantly greater.
Quality Grades for RSM Lawn Seeds
RSM blends are classified into quality grades ranging from 1 to 9:
The higher the grade, the higher the quality and purity of the seed
Higher grades indicate a very low level of contamination
The grass seeds available in our store consist exclusively of RSM blends in quality classes 8–9. This ensures the highest quality, minimal impurities, and the best conditions for a dense, healthy, and long-lasting lawn.
