How do I properly prepare my lawn for winter?
Proper fall care is especially important to ensure your lawn stays healthy and strong throughout the cold season. By following these steps, you’ll create the best possible conditions for winter.
Before winter, the lawn should be mowed to a height of about 3 cm. This keeps it short enough to prevent disease, but not so short that it goes into winter weakened.
Afterward, we recommend applying our Turbogrün Fall Lawn Fertilizer. Be sure to use the correct dosage of 20 g/m² so that the lawn receives sufficient essential nutrients and becomes more resilient.
Optionally, you can apply a light topdressing using “Turbogrün” lawn sand. The recommended amount is 1–2 kg/m². Weigh the sand before spreading it, and then use a lawn rake to distribute it evenly over the area.
In the fall, leaves, branches, and grass clippings should be removed from the lawn regularly. It’s also a good idea to prune trees and shrubs so that the lawn gets as much light as possible.
Moisture, such as dew, promotes lawn diseases, particularly snow mold. That is why dew should be removed from the lawn daily, if possible. A soft broom, a hose, or a lawn rake are all suitable for this purpose.
For added resilience, our Turbogrün Stress Manager can be applied in November. At a rate of 40–100 g/m², it improves the cellular strength of the grass and optimally hardens the lawn for winter.
