How to Use Lawn Lime Properly: Effects, Duration, and Tips

How long does it take for lawn lime to take effect?

The effects of lawn lime are not immediate. How quickly the soil’s pH level changes depends on the current pH level, the soil type, and how regularly it is applied. Lime works gradually and should therefore be used over the long term.

Regular use for long-lasting results

To stabilize and raise the pH level over the long term, we recommend:

• Regular application of approximately 100 g/m²

• about three applications per year

• even distribution across the lawn

This gives the microorganisms in the soil enough time to adapt to the changed soil environment. A healthy pH level improves nutrient availability and promotes vigorous lawn growth.

When is lime actually necessary?

Not every lawn needs to be limed. If the pH level is already within the optimal range, liming is not necessary.

Optimal pH level for lawns:

• approx. 6.5 to 7.0

If the pH level falls within this range, liming is not necessary.

Tip for Checking

We recommend having your soil tested by a professional about every two years. This will give you an accurate picture of your soil’s pH level and nutrient content, allowing you to adjust the amount of lime as needed.
