You need:
our soil sampler or a clean spade
a clean bucket
a clean spoon (only when working with the spade)
Water (only when working with the spade)
Gloves
First you have to decide where the sample is to be taken. The turf should also be well dried for sampling;
There are two procedures for taking soil samples:
Procedure 1:
You take a composite sample of the entire lawn. A composite sample means that soil is taken from different parts of the lawn and then mixed into a single sample. This gives you an image of the entire area.
Procedure 2:
You take a single sample. A single sample means that a sample is only taken from one spot in the lawn. This is recommended, for example, in a problem area where the lawn is not growing well.
Then proceed as described below using the example of a mixed sample:
Sampling with our soil sampler:
It is best to put on gloves first, as skin contact can affect the pH value of the sample. Soil cores are taken from at least ten sampling points using our soil sampler and collected in a clean bucket
Then remove stones, grasses, roots etc. and mix the soil in the bucket.
You should now have 500 g of well-mixed soil in the bucket (please reweigh). The soil can be moist, but it should not be wet.
Filled the soil into the enclosed bag.
Set up the already labeled box, place the bag with the soil in the box and close it with adhesive tape.
You can drop the parcel in a Deutsche Post letterbox.
Removal with a spade:
It is best to put on gloves first, as skin contact can affect the pH value of the sample. Use a spade to make punctures about 10 centimetres deep and as wide as a spade at at least ten sampling points, carefully lift them up and turn them over.
Now use a spoon to scrape strips of soil from the underside and place this soil in a bucket. If possible, the soil should not contain any blades of grass, stones, twigs, thatch or other plant debris. Repeat this at all other puncture points;
Then place the turf cuttings with the underside back into the respective removal points and tread them in carefully. Depending on the weather, you should then water these areas sufficiently;
The soil taken in this way is mixed well in the bucket. If you do this by hand, please wear gloves, as skin contact can affect the pH value of the sample, as described above.
Take about 500 grams of this mixture and fill the prepared bag with it.
Set up the already labeled box, place the bag with the soil in the box and close it with adhesive tape.
You can drop the parcel in a Deutsche Post letterbox.
The result will be sent to you by e-mail about four weeks later, together with a fertilizer recommendation, as a PDF.
