The aim of the Lawn aerator is to decompose or compost the lawn thatch and thus enable greater activity in the soil. As a result, nutrients are released on an organic basis.
Why is thatch so problematic?
Lawn felt is, as the name suggests, a felt-like layer consisting of clippings, organic material and dead grass. It can be up to 10 centimeters thick.
The felt absorbs the water and prevents it from reaching the roots. Nutrients and oxygen are blocked, the lawn does not grow optimally and the roots do not go deep. If the oxygen supply is severely disrupted, the lawn can degenerate or, in the worst case, even suffocate. This results in brown patches and often also fungal diseases, which use the felt as a host;
Felt can be recognized by the fact that the turf is very bouncy and leaves footprints when walked on.
Many lawn diseases are caused by thatch. If the thatch is removed, the lawn can once again absorb oxygen and nutrients;
