If you are planning to reseed, the best time to do this is either in spring or fall.
In most cases, reseeding is carried out after heavy construction machinery has been driven onto the site. In this case, the soil should be deeply loosened or dug up with a power hoe. Depending on the soil conditions, sand or humus can be worked into the soil at the same time. It is also advisable to use ourTurbo green water managerund ;Turbo green lawn aeratorto mix in. This will save you a lot of trouble later on. Now the soil is levelled and rolled. This soil preparation is best done in the fall and leave the soil to rest over the winter so that it can settle a little over the winter. In spring, remove any weeds and level the area again before sowing;
Especially in spring, we recommendSoil sampleso that you know the exact pH value of the soil. If it is too acidic, the soil must be limed to prevent the lawn seeds from becoming corroded and unable to germinate;
Four weeks after liming, you can now start reseeding;
Before you use theLawn seeddistributed, works approx. 10 g/m²Turbo green slow release lawn fertilizeror 50 g/m²Turbo green organic lawn fertilizerinto the soil, also about 10 g/m²Turbo green lawn aerator.
Our pro tip:If you also use theTurbo green water managerthe soil is given a natural water reservoir. This is the ideal way to prevent hydrophobia. Use 1 kg/m² Turbo Green Water Manager and work the granules into the top 10 centimetres of the soil. Then level the surface again, roll it on and leave it to settle for a few more days;
Once the soil has been optimally prepared, you can start sowing. It is important to choose the right seed.
The area should be evenly covered with seed, the best way to do this is with ourTurbo spreaderin level 4 or 5.
Our pro tip:"Sandwich method": First roughen the soil a little and then sow the seed. Then spread a thin layer of approx. 0.5 centimetres of turf soil over the area and finally roll the sown areas with a lawn roller. This ensures better soil contact and protects the seeds from being eaten by birds;
After sowing, it is important to keep a close eye on the watering. Within the next 20 days, the seeds must be continuously moist so as not to jeopardize germination success. Ideally, the area should be watered briefly 4-5 times a day, especially if it is not raining or is very warm.
The first cut can be made when the grass is about 5-10 centimetres long. Important: Only mow the tips first, i.e. a maximum of ⅓ of the blade length. The lawn can then be fertilized with 20 g/m² and should then be well watered.
You can gradually reduce the cutting height until you have reached your desired cutting height. Please note that you should never cut off more than a third of the leaf length, otherwise the lawn will be under too much stress and will turn brown immediately afterwards if cut too radically. We recommend that you only adjust the cutting height downwards again after every third or fourth mowing.
At this stage, weeds such as groundsel also grow up. This is not a bad thing, the weeds cannot withstand regular lawn care and then quickly disappear again.
From now on, the lawn should be fertilized every two months and mowed at least 1-2 times a week so that it receives the optimum care and becomes nice and thick. Make sure that the reel or blade of your lawn mower is sharp.
