This lawn disease causes the lawn to develop yellowish, brown pustules. These look very similar to the rust film that occurs on metal. This disease occurs particularly in the period from June to September.
Dry soil, temperatures around 20-30°, high humidity, water and a lack of nutrients promote the infestation of lawn rust. Lawn rust requires a film of water on the leaves for a few hours to infect.
If the lawn is too long, it dries out less well. This can also contribute to the spread of lawn rust.
The only way to combat the rust-causing fungus (Puccinia) is through good lawn care.
The light and air supply should be optimized (e.g. through ventilation, aerification, sanding, topdressing)
Care should be taken to ensure a balanced and regular supply of nutrients
Optimize irrigation technology, better to irrigate early in the morning than in the evening
In case of active infestation, avoid stressful situations (scarifying, aerating, mowing too low), possibly raise the cutting height for a short time.
