Do you have black spots in your lawn? Then this is probably blue-green algae. These usually appear in the cooler months of the year. The causes are an unbalanced nutrient supply, especially a lack of potassium. Waterlogging and soil compaction are also beneficial for algae proliferation.
The following factors promote algae growth:
Soil compaction
Excess water (e.g. due to excessive precipitation, excessive irrigation or inadequate drainage)
Felt formation
Cut too deep
Shadow influence
Nutrient deficiency
To combat an active algae infestation, it is advisable to remove the algae layer mechanically (e.g. flat with a rake or spade). The soil in this area is then thoroughly torn up with a rake or similar and sanded. To ensure that the lawn looks good again quickly and does not become weedy, our reseeding method should also be applied at the same time to ensure that gaps are closed quickly.
The sand ensures that the surface becomes coarse-pored and therefore permeable to air and water. The surface of the soil dries more quickly and the grasses close the scar again. This deprives algae of their basis for life.
