What do I need to look out for in a new system?
Laying a new lawn is an exciting process that creates the basis for a green and well-maintained outdoor area. Whether in the home garden, on public areas or in commercial facilities - the right preparation and implementation are crucial to establishing a healthy and hard-wearing lawn.
From choosing the right type of lawn to preparing the soil and sowing (or laying turf), there are various steps to consider in order to create optimal growing conditions. In this context, factors such as location, soil conditions, climate and maintenance play an important role in creating a green oasis that meets individual needs and requirements in the long term.
The most important steps for your new investment:
Remove stones and weeds
Take enough time for this step to remove all large stones, weeds and roots. The more thoroughly you carry out this work, the more time and nerves you will save yourself later. It is advisable to consider both mechanical methods and, if necessary, chemical weedkillers in order to create an area that is as clean and weed-free as possible.
Removing stones, roots and other obstacles not only facilitates an even lawn surface, but also improves the permeability of the soil. Eradicating weeds is equally important as they compete for nutrients and space that the new lawn needs.
Incorporate water manager
Optionally, you can also use ourWater managerThis way you can save up to 20 % water later on!
Then level the surface (tread-resistant)
After stones and weeds have been removed (and the water manager has been worked in), it is essential to level the surface thoroughly and make it firm to walk on. Unevenness in the ground could lead to irregular growth of the lawn later on. First, the soil should be loosened and smoothed, either using garden tools such as rakes and shovels or even a tiller, depending on the size of the area. It is then advisable to compact the soil to create a stable surface.
Water/moisten the soil a little
It is now advisable to moisten the soil slightly before starting the actual sowing (or laying turf). The moistened soil promotes seed germination and makes it easier for the roots to establish.
Important:Not too much water!
After moistening, wait a little so that excess water can seep away before starting the actual sowing (or laying the turf).
Applying lawn seed
We recommend scattering the lawn seed evenly. The best way to do this is with a fertilizer spreader.
Organic lawn fertilizer (optional)
Now is the right time for us to take ourOrganic lawn fertilizerapply the fertilizer. Be careful not to exceed the recommended amount and spread the fertilizer evenly with a fertilizer spreader.
Please only use the organic lawn fertilizer when reseeding. Any other fertilizer could provide your lawn with too many nutrients during this phase.
And if you want to do without the organic lawn fertilizer and fertilize with a different fertilizer, be patient until the first green cut.
Apply turf soil (very thinly)
This is followed by a little(!) turf soil. This prevents the lawn seeds from falling victim to the birds and makes it easier for the lawn seeds to germinate.
Water the soil and seeds well
After the final layer of turf soil has been applied, it is important to water the seeds thoroughly and evenly to create optimal conditions for germination. The aim here is to bring sufficient moisture into the soil without oversaturating it.
In such a case, we recommend watering the lawn several times a day, but only briefly!
Please note that the lawn seeds need a lot of attention in the first few weeks in the form of regular watering. This promotes the germination and development of the young lawn plants.
Once the lawn is firmly rooted and showing the first signs of growth, watering can be slowly reduced. A careful start lays the foundation for a lush, healthy lawn that will transform your outdoor area into a green oasis.
